This Spicy Pineapple Salsa is the perfect combination of fiery chilli and sweet pineapple. Use it on dishes like tacos and nachos or even with jerk tofu. Get the recipe below.

Simple salsa

Salsa is one of my favourite dishes to make because it's so simple but adds a real hit of flavour to whatever you're serving it with.

This recipe is made with just 8 ingredients. They are:

  • Fresh pineapple
  • Cucumber
  • Red pepper
  • Spring onions
  • Green Chillies
  • Coriander
  • Lime juice
  • Salt

Should I use fresh or tinned pineapple?

It's important to use fresh ingredients in this recipe. Tinned pineapple is too sweet and doesn't have the same bite to it so always use fresh pineapple.

It can be a faff to have to cut up your own pineapple so I often use the cheat of buying pre-chopped pineapple chunks from the fresh fruit salad section.

Which green chillies should I use?

You can use any variety of green chilli, from jalapeno to Thai birds eye chillies. Although jalapenos might be more authentic I do love using super spicy birds eye chillies every now and then. Just choose the chilli that suits your heat tolerance.

Whatever you choose, make sure you use fresh chillies. Fresh green chillies are better than dried or jarred chillies as they are more crisp in both texture and heat which is what we want in this fiery salsa.

What if I don't have lime juice?

Don't worry if you can't get fresh limes, lemon juice will also work well.

Is there an alternative to coriander?

I know some people find coriander to taste soapy and so may want to avoid it. Personally, I don't think there's another herb that will have the same effect in this recipe. So, I would simply leave it out if you don't like coriander.

If you aren't able to get fresh, don't be tempted to use ground coriander. It's just not the same.
