Once you pop you just can’t stop
I’m sure you’ve heard the slogan from a well known crisp company. But what if I told you that you could make crisps out of kalettes that were just as moreish?
Kalettes are the perfect vehicle for all sorts of different flavours; you can add herbs, spices, even cheese! But I prefer to keep it simple with some salt. Because they are so round and crunchy if you shut your eyes you can convince yourself they are popcorn! Maybe…
What are Kalettes?
Kalettes have recently become very fashionable and are popping up on menus everywhere. But what are kalettes?
Kalettes are actually a hybrid vegetable that has been made by crossing kale with Brussels sprouts. The result are little balls that look like really frilly Brussels sprouts. They are usually quite dark green in colour with purple on the edges.
Unsurprisingly they taste like a cross between kale and Brussels sprouts in an earthy, slightly bitter way.
How to make Kalette Crisps
To make these crispy morsels is simple. You rub them gently with a little oil to ensure their frills are all covered, season well and then you bake in the oven until crispy! Do you even need a recipe?
