Party food

How retro is a cheese straw? They have been a part of kids parties, Christmas buffets and party tables all over the UK for decades. They are definitely something I think of when I look back to my childhood. And, I'll be honest, they're still something I'll serve up to this day! Especially this recipe for Vegan Sun-dried Tomato Cheese Straws. They're just that little bit fancy...

I think our obsession with cheese straws comes from the mix of buttery flaky puff pastry and the sharp flavour of cheddar. They melt in your mouth and pack a flavour punch at the same time. My sun-dried tomato version have even more flavour as they burst with the sweet, umami flavour of the intense tomatoes.

The good news is that making these vegan couldn't be easier. Most store bought puff pastry actually is vegan already. So don't worry, I'm not going to make you make puff pastry from scratch.

(Unless you really want to in which case you can find out how to make it here.)

Vegan cheese is also easy to find. In fact, I'm so lazy I will often buy the Violife pre-grated cheddar for a recipe like this. After all, if you're making them for a party you've probably got enough else on your hands! Let's take a shortcut where we can.

The only "slightly" tricky bit about the recipe is creating the distinctive twists. It's a messy job but someone's got to do it. Find out how in the recipe below.
