Last week I forwent the My Week in Pictures post and opted instead to share a couple of Thanksgiving themed recipes for my American readers and those of you who love your American food. They were very well received so I hope you didn’t mind that you didn’t get my weekly update.
This week has mainly been spent working hard and preparing for Christmas. Advent finally started today so I am proud to admit we have now put up our tree and other decorations.
Christmas has always meant a lot to me and not just because its pretty important season for us Christians. Especially as I’ve gotten older, its become more and more about celebrating with friends and family and reflecting on all that we have to be thankful for. It’s just such a happy, joyful time so I’m always trying to keep that spirit alive! Having decorations up a little earlier than most certainly helps.
As well as putting up the decorations, I’ve also been doing a lot of Christmas baking and making this week. My fruits are soaking in sherry for my Christmas cake , I’ve baked festive cupcakes, peeled 10 lemons for limoncello, baked/decorated edible baubles, and more!!! I intend to make a lot more pickles and preserves plus mince pies, peppermint creams and a few other edible decorations.
There’s nothing like a handmade Christmas!
If you want to get ahead like me, you can make some of the following well ahead of time:
- Spiced Cranberry Chutney
- Cranberry Gin
- Pickled Gherkins
- Traditional Christmas Cake
- Pickled Onions
As we get closer and closer to Christmas I’ll be sharing plenty of festive recipes from edible gifts, edible decorations, Christmas dinner dishes, turkey leftover recipes and more!
Have you started preparing for Christmas already? Share you pictures of your decorations and recipes below 🙂
