Wildes Cheese, Tottenham

Wildes Cheese, Tottenham

The Enfield Food Festival inspired me to share and champion some of my favourite North London foodies. This week it’s all about CHEESE – more specifically Wildes Cheese.

North London Cheese

Wildes Cheese is an award winning artisan cheese making company run by two lovely chaps (Philip and Keith) out of a unit in an industrial estate in Tottenham.

I first came across Wildes Cheese after googling cheese making courses. A glowing review on the Guardian convinced me to book a course for Jon’s birthday. In short, we had a fantastic time and we’ve been mad about Wildes Cheese ever since.

Philip and Keith are (quite rightly) super proud of the cheese they produce. They are so passionate about every stage of the process, from the Jersey cows up in Lancashire which provide the milk, to the cultures which give their cheeses their distinct characteristics and the ingredients used to flavour the cheeses.

Their collaboration with local brewery redemption has resulted in an EPIC beer washed cheese that’s not to be missed.

Get involved!

You can try Wildes Cheese at restaurants like Vanilla Black (one of my favourites) and The Oblix (in the Shard). Or why not try before you buy at various farmers markets (see below) or you can purchase via their online shop.

You could also try one of their cheese making courses. I wish I’d taken my camera along so I could review our day making cheese but luckily fellow food lover Kavey has already done a review on her site. Check it out here.

What I think really sets Wildes Chese apart from every other cheese maker at our local farmers markets is that they are actually local! Too often the cheese comes from the midlands or even further up north and whilst I appreciate it’s better in terms of food miles than it being shipped in from the continent, you can hardly call it locally produced.

I think Keith and Philip have done a fantastic job at creating a truly unique product that is North London born and bred! I am a huge fan and won’t stop eating their tasty cheese.

  • Oh, it’s first thing in the morning and you have me craving cheese. Love the look of these all stacked up on top of one another and I’d love to savour some of it too. We had some brilliant very local cheeses in Liskeard. I’m wondering if there’s going to be anything around Lymington. I don’t think this is dairy country.

    • Cheese for breakfast it is then haha! You never know…I hadn’t expected to find an artisa cheesemaker in Tottenham either so Lymington might expect you. Who knows what delicacies there are in the area. I’m sure you will have fun finding out!
