New Years Resolutions

The problem with living in London is that it has such a cracking food and drinks scene it’s almost impossible not to over indulge. The cocktail bars in particular are fantastic and I love trying out the signature drinks in each bar I visit.

Having well and truly over indulged on cake and cocktails over the festive period, I vowed to cut back in 2016. But, with my birthday falling in the middle of January I wasn’t quite brave enough to cut out alcohol completely. Bravo to those of you who did do Dry January! I applaud you! Instead of cutting alcohol out completely I’ve embraced shim cocktails – low alcohol cocktails which have all the fun, fruity flavour of normal cocktails without the high alcohol content.

If you also cut back last month, I hope, like me, you are feeling a lot better for it! So, to help us all stay on the right track, today I’m sharing a low alcohol Tall Coconut Cocktail with who have put together a definitive list of 1 unit cocktails.

Tall Coconut Cocktail

What a lot of people don’t realise is that some of their favourite cocktails are already low-alcohol, 1 unit drinks. Pimms which we’ve all sipped slowly on a summer afternoon is a shim. Brunch cocktail the mimosa is another popular 1 unit cocktail. Even the very trendy right now Aperol Spritz is a shim! But and I wanted to come up with something new and exciting and so here I am sharing The Tall Coconut made from some of the trendiest ingredients right not.

The Tall Coconut Cocktail is not only a low in alcohol but also light on calories and full of flavour. This cocktail combines crisp and pure Smirnoff No.21 Vodka with sharp, crushed blueberries. Agave adds the sweetness we crave and low-fat coconut water makes this a long, tropical drink that will have you dreaming of summer!

    1. Thanks Becky! I’m definitely leaning towards low alcohol cocktails. The alcohol is often pretty important for taste so it’s nice to have something other than fruit juice with an umbrella in it!

    1. They’re definitely an emerging trend Lucy 🙂 and such a good idea! Long Island iced teas are my favourite but deadly :-p

    1. Thanks Mark. I’ve definitely been guilty of overndulging more times than I care t admit. I’m glad shims are back on the cocktail menu!
